    • The seventh annual Della Hardman Day celebration sponsored by the Town of Oak Bluffs will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in Ocean Park.

Della Hardman, PhD, artist, educator and writer, was a beloved resident of Martha’s Vineyard for nearly 20 years prior to her death in 2005. Following a career in higher education as chairperson of the Art Department at West Virginia State College, she retired to the Vineyard and became actively involved in community life there.

As a popular columnist for the “Vineyard Gazette” for nearly a decade, she used her ‘voice’ as a journalist to chronicle the stories of the Island’s diverse residents and seasonal visitors. She also contributed to the educational and cultural life as a member of the board of directors of the Featherstone Center for the Arts, the Oak Bluffs Public Library, the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society, the Martha’s Vineyard Historical Society (now the Martha’s Vineyard Museum), and the Nathan Mayhew Seminars, among others.

A series of cultural and educational programs are being planned for the 2010 celebration by the Della Hardman Day Committee comprised of year-round and seasonal residents. 2010 Further details to be announced.
